I’ve been in business since early 2003, and there are lots of things that I’ve been hesitant and even afraid about. Sometimes it’s because I think it will be too hard, too much work involved, or else I wasn’t confident in the outcome. Other times it might have been as simple as believing that I wouldn’t enjoy doing it.
Over the years I’ve learned to trust two things. First of all I trust my gut. When I am presented with something that I know is wrong I give myself permission to say no — or at least give myself permission to not say yes immediately. The other thing I’ve learned is to second-guess my gut. Yeah, I know that sounds counter-intuitive; however, the reality is that my gut sometimes works to protect me from growing or taking a risk. I’ve learned the excitement and fear can often look and feel the same. When I’m faced with something that terrifies me, I ask myself if it is real terror around something that is not for me or is it a step up to a new level.
And when I decide, as I often do, to tackle that new thing, I get help. I ask for guidance. I talk with people who have done it. I get advice and help from my coach. I do not do it alone because that would be crazy.
Being a business owner and entrepreneur is the best course in personal development you’ll ever find. We are constantly faced with new opportunities and the fears that come along with them. I encourage you to find the mentorship and success coaching you need to help you tackle and succeed with the challenges you take on – in business or in life!
I’d love to know your thoughts on this. Please share your comments below.
