Back in June I decided that I would start running again. I don’t particularly like running and set my goal at 5K (3.1 miles). A friend challenged me to increase my goal to 10k, and so I did.
It took me all summer. I hit the goal on Sunday with a 10K run. I ran at an average pace of 10 ½-minute miles. It was hard. I still don’t like running, and find that I have no need to run that distance again.
The important thing is that I set a goal and kept working towards it.
My road to 10K looked nothing like I thought it would. Some parts were harder, and some easier.

Are there goals that you are striving to reach? How are you doing with them? Let me know.
One more thing – Over the course of striving to reach this goal I learned a lot and shot quite a few videos and wrote a few articles about my experience. Here are links to a few of them.

So proud of you and inspired by your commitment to do the thing you set out to do even though you weren’t always sure why the heck you were out on that road! You’ve definitely upped my commitment over the summer. Just last night on the treadmill I wanted to see if I could finally jog five minutes instead of two, which sounds like nothing but is monumental given I could barely walk a few months ago. At three minutes my ankle was burning and I wanted to stop. The clock seemed to be stuck! I literally said to myself, “If Carrie could do a 10k you can do five minutes!” and I did. 😊

Tammy – It’s amazing how you inspired me to complete this 10K & I inspired you at the same time.
I’ve learned a lot working towards this goal. One thing is not to try to jump from one level to the next level too quickly. It will lead to injury. If you were jogging 2 minutes (amazing by the way) you could have made the jump to 3 minutes. You did a 250% increase. I could never have gone from 2 miles straight to 5, it was hard enough going from 2 to 2.5. Another thing I learned – sometimes you will backslide. Ewen after I had gotten to 3 miles and then 4 and 5 there were times that I felt I couldn’t do 2. And I know what you mean about the clock being stuck. If only it could get stuck when I’m enjoying a bowl of ice cream 😉
