Owning a business is not for the faint of heart.
A job is so much easier. It’s a guaranteed paycheck, you know what to expect every day,
you have a specific job, and most important…someone else is making the decisions.
Why do you run your own business?

I run on my business because I get to choose: 1) How I invest my time 2) Who I work with (vendors, clients and colleagues).
I agree Self-Employment isn’t the easy option, but for me it’s the only one.

There are so many reasons to do it and so many reasons to absolutely not do it.
I’m glad it works for you. It works for me too.

When I started my business over 30 years ago I wanted to make my mark with my own ideas. I don’t do well taking orders from someone else. I am very independent and believed that I had a better way to do things. I also needed the flexibility to be able to be there for my kids growing up and still be able to work at my own pace and during the hours that made sense for me. You are right owning a business is NOT for the faint of heart. It is scary and sometimes lonely. But if you have a vision and a dream to do something terrific, it is well worth it. I still love what I do, we continue to be successful, and have no signs of stopping.

Ilene, you’ve been at this for 30 years, I’ve been at it for 22. Crazy how fast it goes isn’t it. A huge reason I started the business was because I wanted the flexibility with my kids. As they’ve grown up I’ve realized that it’s been more about my own personal growth than theirs.
