I was walking my daughter’s 8-month old German Shephard along a path in a local park. Wow, did she see things differently than me! I started thinking about entrepreneurship and business, and the prospects, and the customers we take along paths. We take them along a path through our website, through programs, sales conversations, and through any work we do with them.
One thing I have learned over the years is that none of us think alike. It’s not that your client is going the wrong way, it’s that they are going their way. You’re not right, you’re not wrong. We are simply different people who think differently from each other.
It is likely that what you think is the most obvious and correct path through is very different from what your user is thinking.
Take a moment to consider how someone else may wander along the paths you’ve created. How may they be experiencing or seeing it? What can you do to shift the way you’re communicating so that you’re joining them on their path instead of trying to force them onto yours?
Check out the video – Dani even makes a cameo appearance – and then let me know your thoughts in the comments section below.

So true how you assume your clients will understand what you are saying. Thanks for sharing your walk, tips and your grand dog!! A good reminder of how we need to put ourselves in our client’s place.

We can never force anyone to think like us.. meet them where they are. Speak with them in a way that they will understand.
