Goals You CAN Achieve!
- Positive. Something you will do. Saying I won’t be a slob anymore is not positive. Try I will put my clothing in the hamper when I take them off at night.
- Specific. Your goal needs to state exactly what you want to do and when you want to do it. Stating that you will keep your bedroom clean isn’t enough!
- Controllable. Do you have control over the people involved in this goal? Are the clothes on the bedroom floor yours?
- Believable and Achievable. YOU really think it is possible and there are no practical barriers in your way. If you don’t believe it can happen, it won’t.
- Affirmed in public. It is not always practical to tell someone your goal but it is very powerful — at a minimum say your goal aloud and write it down.
- Flexible. Simply put life happens — forgive yourself when it does. However, if you find that you need to constantly readjust your goal maybe you need to rethink your plan. Maybe your goal, or the way you are trying to achieve it, is not realistic.
Now Take Out Your Pen!
- What is your goal? Write it down!
- What is one step you can take to get closer to this goal?
- When are you going to do it?
