It may not sound like a problem but it is. In fact, it has the power to bring everything to a dead stop. Idea-itis.
Here’s what happens. You get up in the morning and go to your office. You sit at your desk to get started and you freeze. What are you going to do first? Hmmm…so many exciting ideas to pursue. All of these ideas have possibility. They can all grow your business. They all have the power to shift everything.
You think, you putter, you do a little of this and a little of that. You might even make plans but you never get focused and these ideas don’t become what you imagine them to be.
Instead of moving forward on your exciting, full of possibility ideas, you get stuck in your day-to-day and that means you stay exactly where you are.
The end result…instead of your ideas growing your business, bringing in clients, increasing your visibility, and generating profits, you feel guilty and beat yourself up about all the things you “should” do and want to do if only….
I’ve got good news and bad news for you here…
The bad news is that you can’t do everything and the more you try, the worse it will be.
The good news is that you can do some of it, and the things that you choose to do can make a huge difference for you and your business.
Here are five steps designed to help you pick the ideas that will make the most difference to you so that you know where to focus your attention.
1. Gather all of your ideas together. Write them down or put them all in a single document or spreadsheet.
2. With your long term goals in mind, review the ideas and pick the one that will push you furthest towards your goals.
3. With your short term goals in mind, review the list again and pick the one that will enable you to accomplish those goals quickest or with the least effort.
4. Look at the two ideas you’ve identified as making the most difference in both the long and short term. Give yourself permission to focus your attention on these ideas and let the others go.
5. Identify the first few steps you need to take on each and set aside a little time each day to take small action steps on these two ideas.
Where are you going to focus your attention? I’d love to know. Please share it with me!
