Wouldn’t it be great if we could do it all?
Imagine never having to think about whether or not you have enough time or if you were stretching yourself too thin.
Wishful thinking, huh?
Unfortunately it doesn’t work that way. You don’t have infinite access to time or resources. There will be things left undone.
If you can’t do everything, how do you make sure that the most important things get done?
First you need to define your vision. What do you want to achieve and why do you want it? Then strategically choose the things that will make your vision a reality.
The “strategically” part is the trick, here’s how to do it.
Step 1: Do a brain dump; create a list with every idea you can think of. Include the reason you want to do it. The clearer you are on why you want to do it the easier it will be to decide if that’s the right thing for you to do.
Step 2: Review the list you created and pick the one or two ideas that are the most important to you. Ask yourself: if there was only one or two things on this list that I can do, which are going to have the biggest effect for my business, my clients and me?
Step 3: Think about what “finishing” that idea looks like. How far do you really need to take it? (Remember your goal is for it to be done, not perfect.)
Step 4: Outline the specific steps to you need to reach that goal. What support do you need? What information do you need? What don’t you need to do?
Step 5: Decide when you will take these steps and put time on the calendar. Remember, it’s not just about creating deadlines but also making time to do the steps.
When you understand exactly what your goal is and how you are going to reach it, it becomes much easier for you to achieve it.
